Chapter 24 I Have Something to Ask You
George stared at the woman's face unblinkingly and witnessed her horror, wrath and panic.
He thought, "I am not a monster. Does she have to be like this?"
George furrowed his brows. The woman's soft body was so close to him that his private parts were responding to that. Intuitively, he put forth even more strength on his hand.
Abigail's wrist hurt so much that tears shed down her cheeks. In a moment of desperation, she lowered her head to bite the man's finger.
The sharp pain made the man loosen his grip. Abigail took the chance to step back until the stove sopped her, and her arm accidentally knocked something over.
After the noise she made, the kitchen fell into silence.
The atmosphere was as stiff as if the air was still.
After a good while, just as George was going to say something, the power suddenly came back.
The dazzling light made Abigail narrow her eyes.
Having her finger cut was already annoying enough for Abigail, and George's appearance simply made it worse.
Mrs. March ran over to the kitchen in a hurry, was stunned for a second at the sight of George, and then looked at Abigail.
Seeing Abigail's bleeding finger, Mrs. March was startled. She hurried to check on the wound and then fetched the medical kit.
After getting used to the light, Abigail glared straight at the man in front of her.
However, in the man's eyes, her furious expression was not a threat at all. Instead, it looked inviting and charming. Her bloodstained lips looked like cheery fruit, and her figure appeared like a blooming flower.
George got distracted for a moment and then revealed a sinister look.
Abigail did not withdraw her gaze until Mrs. March hurriedly entered the kitchen with the medical kit.
"Mrs. March, I can handle the wound myself, but I'll leave the kitchen to you to clean up." Abigail took the box and walked out of the kitchen without sparing a glance at George.
Having sensed something wrong between the couple, Mrs. March kept reticent. She turned off the heat, picked up the knife from the floor, and started to restore the kitchen to its original appearance.
Abigail's standoffish attitude towards him made George felt tight in the chest.
Before he showed up, she was humming a tune happily while cooking. After he showed up, however, she acted coldly as if he was not welcome here.
George thought, "It's me who should be indifferent and feel annoyed!"
The sharp edge of the knife almost cut the flesh off Abigail's index finger. Upon seeing the deep cut, she shuddered all over. Then, she managed to use a swab to stop the bleeding and sterilize the wound despite the pain.
She focused on handling the wound and treated George like he was not here.
The man had not been home for over two years, but he had been coming back frequently lately. What the hell had he been up to?
When Abigail finished cleaning up the wound, rubbing on the ointment, and wrapping the gauze, Mrs. March walked out of the kitchen, stopped in front of Abigail, and suggested with concern, "Let me call the doctor to get a tetanus shot for you."
She had lost so much blood. What if the wound got infected?
Before Abigail could refuse Mrs. March, George said in a commanding tone, "Go ahead."
Not giving Abigail a chance to refuse, he added with a cold look in his eyes, "I need to ask you something."
George sat down on the couch and lowered his head to see the bloodstains on his chest. A trace of complex emotion flashed across his dark, gloomy eyes.
Since Mrs. March had gone to call the doctor, they were alone again in the large space.
