Chapter 11 I Took It Seriously
Sean didn't give those reporters much time. In a short while, they were required to leave. With one hand holding Jenny, Sean carried his son off the table with the other hand. Then, they left the reception room from a side door.
As soon as they came out, Jenny lost her temper. Calling Shirley down to take Grayson away, she then quickly followed Sean into his office. Rushing up, she stopped the man, "Why did you say that in front of the reporters without my permission? We need to talk!"
While speaking, she tried to take off the ring.
But the ring size was strange. The more anxious she was, the hard she found to take it off. Until her finger reddened, the ring still hooped there.
Without a word, Sean stared at her hand and showed a caring look as if she was a retard.
She exerted so much strength that her finger swelled, but still, the ring couldn't be taken off.
Jenny had to give up for now and spoke diffidently, "I think we should talk. If you have a girlfriend, I agree to cancel the marriage. But..."
Sean sat back into his seat as if he didn't hear her. Lowering his head to read the files, he flipped through a few pages, suddenly looked up, and broke in, "Where are the albums I asked you to bring yesterday?"
He was selectively deaf.
Donny hurried over with a thick stack of albums and files, "All set, madam, please take a look."
Jenny got a mental breakdown and shouted, "Sean, can't you hear me? I'm talking to you about the cancellation of our marriage!"
"Who told you I would cancel the marriage?"
Jenny froze there.
Sean finally landed his eyes on her, "Miss Lane, I have keen ears and good memory. Yesterday, I overheard that you wouldn't give up your husband to others and would give him a warm harbor..."
"I..."
Jenny was at a loss for words.
How could he excuse that!
She had to bite the bullet and explain, "I was just... bickering with Tracy!"
Sean's tone was emotionless, "Sorry, I took it seriously."
Jenny blurted out on impulse, "What is the matter with the child? Where is his mother? I am a person rather than an ornament. I don't want to be placed there as Mrs. Roger and wait for your family of three to reunite!"
Sean's tone was still emotionless, "His mother already passed away."
Jenny froze there.
Sean then added, "Grayson was an accident, and I didn't know his mother."
Fine.
She thought it should be a bitter love story. It turned out to be a one-night stand.
Fine, he could take it seriously.
Anyway, now she needed a patron. Through canceling marriage, she just wanted to vent out her anger. In fact, her mission back was to get married!
Jenny took a deep breath, "Alright, since you mean to marry me, we can deem it as cooperation based on win-win. I don't care how many girlfriends you had and who they are."
She then added a blunt warning, "But, please remember your identity. From now on, for the duration of our relationship, you must unconditionally support my proper behavior. After all, if the interests of your wife are damaged, it won't do you any good, neither."
She thought for a while and continued, "I can also assure you that as long as it does not seriously violate morality or the law, I will unconditionally support you no matter what."
She spoke very frankly, making clear the interests and obligations. Such an attitude was pleasant for a couple who was getting married but didn't quite know each other.
This woman was indeed different.
Sean looked at her with his dark eyes so deep as if her soul would be taken in.
After waiting for half a minute, she got no answer from him and thus asked more closely, "Mr. Roger, are you listening? Do you accept my conditions?"
"Okay."
He agreed.
Following a sigh of relief, Jenny waited for his conditions, but he didn't continue. Instead, he pushed an album on the desk over, "Take a pick."
After a moment of hesitation, Jenny silently picked it up.
In the office, only the flips of paper and scratches of nib could be heard.
After a moment, Sean suddenly broke the silence, "Where are you living now?"
His voice startled Jenny, who was lowering her head to watch the dress patterns. After a moment of daze, she weighed her choice of words and said, "I'll find a hotel later."
She hesitated and explained, "Last night, I just wanted to wait for you to come back and talk. I didn't mean to stay at your house..."
Sean hummed, "Then stay at my house."
But...
Jenny still wanted to explain, but Sean added, "In case anyone would say that my wife has no residence."
This was for the sake of his reputation... fair enough.
Donny and Eason listened at the door for a while. Eason's brows furrowed, "Bro, don't you think Mr. Roger is a bit off these days?"
Donny nodded in agreement, "More than that!"
"I somehow feel he is chasing... chasing the girl?"
Donny took a deep breath, raised a finger to his mouth, shushed, and lowered his voice, "I think Mr. Roger's trick is the longest way."
Busy with affairs, Sean soon left the office.
Jenny, quite accomplished in painting, heard about those famous designers and had her own preferred style. Besides, she was a deceive woman, so with a pen, she soon checked the options and finished the selection.
Or perhaps, she didn't think much about the wedding.
It was already decided by Sean anyway. She preferred this way and wouldn't need to bother much.
The matter with her dad, however, was like a thorn in her heart. She needed to figure a way out.
As a lawyer, she couldn't get much professionally useful information from Hedy.
She needed more valuable files.
After staying abroad for years, she and Shirley just came back, thus no longer familiar with the things in the Capital City. Where could she get those confidential files?
Jenny thought for a while and then simply called out at the door, "Donny, Eason?"
Both of them were there. Following her call, they immediately opened the door and got in, "Madam, what can we be of service?"
Jenny asked, "I suppose you know about my father, Mason's case. I need a complete dossier. Do you have any suggestions?"
She just wanted to get some ideas from them, but Donny took a step forward, "Mr. Roger has mentioned that and already had the dossier sent back. Madam can review it as soon as you go back home."
Already sent back home?
Jenny was stunned. It looked like her fiancé could read her mind.
