Chapter 8 Pestering the Man
Sophia got home and opened the door to see Alice and Ivy working on a complicated jigsaw in the living room.
Seeing her mother, Ivy immediately left what she was doing, ran over to Sophia, and hugged her leg. "Mommy."
Sophia bent down to pick her daughter up and walked over to Alice. Seeing her friend staring at the jigsaw, she wondered, "What are you looking at?"
Alice lifted her head while pointing at the jigsaw, saying, "Sophia, I am once again impressed by Ivy's intelligence. Do you remember this jigsaw? It took us a whole day to work it out before. Ivy, however, finished it in ten minutes after sparing several glances at the drawing."
At Alice's words, Sophia revealed a calm smile. "What's so surprising about this?"
Sophia learnt about Ivy's high IQ when she participated in the Children's International Mnemonic Competition in A Country. Ivy memorized hundreds of numbers in order after looking at them for a few minutes.
That time, Ivy also won $5,000, which was used by Sophia for living expenses...
After that, Sophia encouraged her daughter to participate in similar competitions. Ivy almost won the first place in all of them, and the rewards she won had taken a lot of pressure off Sophia...
At the thought of that, Sophia felt she was a real failure as a mother.
"Mommy, didn't you mention that I'd see Daddy when we got back from the hospital?" Ivy pursed her lips and looked at Sophia with dissatisfaction. "Mommy always lies to me. Every time I go to the hospital, you tell me that I'll see Daddy when I get out, but when I get discharged from the hospital, there's no Daddy."
Sophia faked a cough to relieve the embarrassment.
Her daughter had been asking when she could see her Daddy from two years ago. However, Sophia herself had no idea who Ivy's father was at all. How could she do anything about her daughter's request then?
"Ivy, your father will show up soon. But you have to be a good girl. If you fail to do that, Daddy won't come back."
"I'm a good girl, Mommy. I'm a good girl." Ivy embraced her mother, kissed her fervidly, and left saliva all over her face.
Sophia wiped her face, put Ivy down, and turned to enter the kitchen.
Alice followed Sophia up, saying, "I've got the meal ready."
Sophia smelled the food, and a sensation of warmth instantly filled her heart.
After the three of them had dinner, Sophia bathed Ivy and then put her to sleep before slipping out of the bedroom.
In the living room, Alice was sitting on the couch and watching TV with a pillow in her arms. Upon seeing Sophia, she hastily waved her hand at the other woman. "Sophia, come here. Look at the TV."
Sophia turned to look at the television and happened to see Leon's face on the screen.
The scene was...
It looked like the venue of Leon's engagement party.
"Those journalists are so gossipy." Alice commented. However, Sophia found her concentrating on following those gossip. Alice picked up an apple and took a bite. All of a sudden, she jumped off the sofa and said in shock. "Sophia, isn't that you? They've actually filmed you."
Sophia was even more surprised than Alice. She had not expected herself to appear on TV and get involved in this kind of gossip at all. The next moment, she rushed over to the TV, intending to turn it off. "Stop watching it."
If she remembered correctly, Leon was going to pull her into his arms and kissed her in front of everyone.
"Gee? Don't turn it off. I am watching it. Wait a minute. Sophia, you and Leon...Did Leon kiss you?"
Before Sophia could turn the TV off, what should not appear on the screen showed up. What was worse, it was actually a close-up of the kissing between Leon and her.
She looked at herself on the screen and found her expression extremely stupid.
