Chapter 6 He's So Handsome!
"He's very naughty." Johnson put Tom down from his shoulder.
"It's normal for a child to be naughty. If he's not, you should be worried!" Shirley couldn't accept the man's explanation.
She usually felt relieved when Alice was lively and energetic. If Alice was quiet and listless, she was likely to be sick.
Shirley walked up to the boy, squatted, and handed a tissue to him. What a coincidence to meet him again after saving him! And he had so many similarities to Alice! For these two reasons, Shirley couldn't help showing affection to this boy.
With a glance at her, Tom turned around and wiped his tears with his arm.
"Take it!" Johnson ordered him to be polite.
"No!" Tom replied louder in a crying tone.
Shirley was astonished at their communication mode which was just like arguing. Calmly, she said, "It's okay. You have the right not to take it. We'll respect you."
Then, she rose and said to Johnson, "You should be patient. Don't be hard on him unless he does something serious. I hope you can give him more patience."
She advocated that the parents could give them severe punishments only when children got into bad habits.
After fulfilling her duty, she took Alice's hand again. "Let's go. I'll take you somewhere else to have lunch."
But the good girl didn't move at all.
She was standing still and looking up at Johnson.
Her big eyes gleamed with admiration, an expression that was very familiar to Shirley.
Alice usually revealed such an expression when she saw ice-cream, dolls, or dresses she wanted. Likewise...
She wanted this man!
"Ahem!" Shirley was embarrassed by her filthy thought. She scooped Alice up and said softly, "Alice, didn't I tell you it's rude to stare at others?"
The girl was so lovely that Johnson couldn't help speaking for her, "I'm fine with this."
"A bad habit must be corrected in time," Shirley replied without looking at him.
Johnson could only remain silent.
Alice didn't retract her gaze. Meeting Johnson's eyes, she threw her arms around Shirley's neck shyly and whispered, "He's so handsome."
Just then, Tom also turned around.
He was attracted by Shirley's gentleness.
When the girl made a mistake, this woman didn't scold her severely. Instead, she pointed out the girl's mistake very gently. It was like when he didn't take her tissue, she was not angry and even said she would respect him.
But in his own family, when he made a little mistake, the steward would correct it seriously and his dad would also be tough to him.
Indeed, there were people who talked gently to him, but they did so just because of his father. He didn't want hypocritical care.
Shirley found the atmosphere was a little weird...
While Alice was staring at Johnson, his son was also observing Shirley...
Well...
What should she do?
"Manager," Johnson broke the silence. "Take good care of this madam and her daughter."
"I see, Mr. Roberts," the manager replied respectfully with her head lowered.
"Huh?" Shirley was flattered. Was he giving her the privilege to enjoy the superior service he had paid lots of money for? She shook her head. "No, thanks. We can eat somewhere else."
"It's my pleasure. Thank you for saving Tom that night." Then, he strode off with Tom directly.
After watching them leave, Shirley cheered. What a surprising result!
"We can have a children's meal now!" She said joyfully to Alice. They would be the only guests here!
"Yes!" Alice nodded firmly. But then, she looked a little disappointed. "But it's a pity that we can't eat with that handsome man and his handsome son."
Shirley smiled and stroked Alice's head. How could they dine with Johnson?
When she took Alice home, it had been 11 in the evening. Kevin hadn't been back.
While Alice was in a sound sleep in her arms, she made a phone call to him.
He had been very nice to her daughter these years, so she, in return, should give him due care.
After a long while, Kevin finally answered the phone. Shirley asked, "Are you still in the company?"
"Yes. The work is a little tricky. I won't go back tonight. Are you just back? Was Alice happy today?"
His voice was very gentle. Shirley replied, "We're just back. Alice was very happy and also tired. She fell asleep on the way home. I'll leave you to it."
"Okay, have a good sleep. You must be tired after playing with Alice for a whole day. Good night."
His words made her feel very warm.
It was not easy to be a single mother. But the child was her own and she would try her best to look after her.
At this time, the care from others was very precious.
"I see. Good night. Take care of yourself." Shirley said in a low voice and hung up the phone.
On the other side, in a hotel suite.
Kevin stared at the screen, lost in thought. Shirley's voice was still echoing in his earlobes.
She cared more and more about him recently. Had her heart accepted him?
But why did her body always reject him?
His eyelid drooped as he thought of that missed kiss. Had she been just shy about it?
But she had rejected him for five years, which was long enough.
"I don't want you to think about that woman." Silvia pouted her lips, her fingers caressing his naked body. "What's good about her? She has a daughter, but she keeps you dangling for such a long time. She knows what you want!"
Kevin grabbed her hand and kissed it softly. "Don't say that about Shirley."
"You spoke for her again! Don't come to me if you want her!" Silvia pinched his waist and turned her back to him.
He held her in his arms, pressing his head against her neck. "No. If I don't come to you, I'll be mad!"
In her giggle, the bed trembled again.
When Shirley was about to take a shower, her phone buzzed. She read the message and was surprised by the content.
It was a very formal piece of interview notice, and the position applied was a caregiver for a child. At the bottom of the message were a phone number and also an address.
The location was an exceptionally expensive villa, a place for definitely the rich.
She was confused – she had never applied for this job.
This kind of home care was usually highly paid, but it required the caregiver to live with the family. Since she had a daughter, she had never considered such a job.
Was it a trick?
After thinking for a while, she made a phone call to Linda Brown, her best friend. If it was not Linda who helped her apply for the job, then it must be a trick.
Several minutes later...
"What? It's really you?" Shirley sighed sightly. She knew it!
"Yes. Don't refuse it so fast. I've asked about it. Although you're required to live there, you'll have your own room in a separate building for servants. Even if you take Alice there, you won't bother that family."
"But you should at least tell me in advance!" Shirley revealed a wry smile.
"Don't you know what you'll say if I tell you? Shirley, since you had Alice, you've been pursuing a stable life. In some way, you're more and more like a turtle. If I hadn't helped you sign for piano classes, ballet classes, and social events, you would have spent all your time with Alice! Even your major was chosen because of Alice!"
"I..."
"Have you seen the address? You should know it'll be an honor to be chosen. You must go to the interview. If that family really can't accept Alice, it's not late to refuse the job at that time!"
