Chapter 6 The Fitch's
After entering the elevator, Nancy locked her stare at the graceful young man who looked steadily at the front. Suddenly, she greeted with a smile, "Hi, I'm Nancy Moon, Sara White's good friend. You're Sara's neighbor, right? It seems you seldom go home. I'd appreciate it if you take good care of Sara..."
However, the man just ignored her. Displeased, she pouted her lips and wanted to say more. But Sara dragged her sleeve and winked at her, trying to stop her from talking.
All the way down, the man didn't give them a look or say a word as if they didn't exist.
"Shit, he's too cold and impersonal!" As the man walked off, Nancy gave him the finger.
"Nancy, why did you say that to him? It was very embarrassing! We don't even know each other!"
Nancy placed her hands on Sara's shoulders and said with a grin, "Don't be angry. I was testing him. As you saw, he was so cold and distant. I'm sure he's forgotten what happened that night. So you don't need to feel embarrassed anymore. He's merely a rich playboy with lots of affairs!"
Sara pressed her lips and was somewhat persuaded. "You're right. I don't need to feel embarrassed. But Kent..." Before she could finish her words, Nancy interrupted, "Kent Fitch also has many affairs. He's betrayed your marriage many times, and you just made a single mistake. Don't feel guilty for him. All right, we should hurry to the hospital. You're having a fever! I don't want you to get burnt in your head."
Sara had an IV in the hospital and slept for a while in Nancy's murmur. When she left, she received a phone call from Elliott.
"Sara, Kent wasn't with you on your wedding anniversary, right? I'll help you teach that guy a lesson! Come back here tonight."
Before Sara could say anything, Elliott hung up the phone.
"Sara, why don't you tell Kent's grandpa the truth, letting him know Kent has never touched you or gone to Firmiana Garden since you got married."
Sara shook her head. "Grandpa is old. I can't make him suffer."
"Stupid girl, you can't bear all of these alone! You're tolerant, but they're ungrateful! Humph!" Nancy poked her head with a sigh.
Sara just smiled faintly. No matter how hard it was, she didn't want to leave Kent or disappoint the respectable old man.
After going back home, she wore light makeup to cover her paleness. Then, she set off for the Fitch's.
The Fitch's was located on a hillside in the east of City B. Driving up a road flanked by tall Chinese parasol trees, one could see a luxurious villa like an English manor house. It occupied a vast area with a clear lake, well-trimmed lawns, a colorful garden, and also a mountain behind. The landscape was as quiet and beautiful as a picture.
When Sara walked into the living room, Lilith Evans happened to go downstairs. Seeing Sara, she became bitterly sarcastic. "What did you say about Kent to grandpa again? What a shameless woman! You cuckolded Kent on the wedding day! We've been kind enough to tolerate you for three years! How dare you spoke ill of Kent? If he divorces you, who do you think will marry you? Humph!" As she said that, she walked past Sara and sat on the sofa.
Sara's eyelids drooped slightly. Although she had got used to Lilith's abuse and humiliation, she still felt sad and wronged. All the time, there was a thorn in her chest that she couldn't pull out.
Seeing Sara standing still there, Lilith said spitefully, "Why are you still standing there? Go to the kitchen and help Mrs. Cook with cooking! How ill-bred you are!" She glanced at Sara with great displeasure.
In the kitchen, Mrs. Cook sighed as she found Sara had become much thinner. "Mrs. Fitch, I can manage these alone. You may watch TV in the living room."
"Mrs. Cook, please let me help you wash vegetables. Anyway, I have nothing to do." Sara smiled.
Mrs. Cook really couldn't understand why Kent and Lilith didn't like Sara. It was so cruel to hurl abuse or sarcasm at this gentle, virtuous woman. Alas!
