Chapter 9 Meeting Howard Nash Again
Sara sat on the ground with her eyes closed. Some memories came flooding back.
Her father once saved Kent, who was a little boy by then, from the robbers regardless of danger. In that accident, he was paralyzed with his injured left leg. To express thanks, Elliott promised to let Sara marry Kent when she grew up.
Since then, her heart had been occupied by a man called Kent Fitch.
She was a traditional girl. After knowing her husband would be Kent, she struggled hard to keep pace with him. In university, she studied jewelry design diligently, but she married him before she graduated. Since he didn't want her to show up in public, she didn't accomplish her studies or have a formal job. However, she had never complained about that.
Fortunately, during these three years, she obtained a diploma of self-taught education.
But no matter how hard she tried to please him, he didn't care at all. She never had an idea of why he hated her so much...
Wiping away the tears from her face, she looked at her soft arms which were bruised and bleeding. Regardless of the pain, she climbed up from the ground and kept walking forward. After a few steps, she suddenly realized that her handbag was still in Kent's car.
When she backtracked, she saw the wobbling car and clenched her fists tightly. Her thin figure swaying in the cold wind was just like a withering autumn leaf. After a deep breath, she turned around and ran fast away.
She wandered about on the street like a headless chicken. The shaking car kept appearing in her mind, stabbing her heart like a sword. The pain was so great that she could hardly bear. Her head was stuffed with too many questions: Why had he proposed to her if he didn't love her? Why did he give her hope? Why? Why? Why? She shouted and cried aloud in her heart...
Just then, a black Cadillac sped in her direction from not far away, but she didn't notice that. In a daze, she rushed to the middle of the road. Beep! Beep! Beep... At that moment, there were harsh honks and a squeal of brakes.
Seeing the figure, Pique braked hastily. It was such an emergency that he didn't have time to inform the man behind him. As a result, the man leaned forward, his papers scattering onto the ground. Then, the pressure in the car dropped dramatically.
"Mr. Nash, I'm so sorry. Someone rushed over here." Feeling the coldness in the car, Pique didn't dare to look at his boss.
Calmly, Howard Nash glanced at Pique with his pitch-black eyes and said in a flat tone, "Go and see what happened."
Pique wiped the cold sweat on his forehead and got off the car hurriedly.
With a pale look, Sara was staring at the car within striking distance. She almost died under the wheels.
"Madam, are you all right?" Pique asked with a frown. He saw the woman sitting on the ground with glazed eyes.
Sara shook her head and replied in a voice as soft as a veil, "I'm fine..." Then, she forced herself up and tottered away.
"Madam, are you really all right? Shall I drive you to the hospital?" Pique caught up with her who looked exceptionally weak and might fall anytime.
Sara looked back at him and gave a faint smile. "I'm really fine..." But just then, she was hit by a wave of dizziness and fainted. Panicked, Pique held her in his arms.
Sara felt thirsty and sore all over. When she opened her eyes hard, she saw white walls and a white ceiling and smelt a strong smell of disinfectant. Obviously, she was in the hospital.
"You're awake?" The nurse was pulling a needle out of Sara's skin, and with a smile, handed her a business card. "The man who sent you here asked me to give you this. You can call him if you have any problems." When the nurse walked out, she blushed and whispered to herself with a smile, "He's so handsome! How I wonder if he has a girlfriend!"
Sara looked at the delicate card: Howard Nash, CEO of Ella International Jewelry in Asia. There was also his personal phone number and a landline one.
She put the card into her handbag. When she was discharged, she was told that man had paid the fee for her.
Back to Firmiana Garden, she had a subconscious look at the closed door opposite her apartment. When she hoped she wouldn't meet the man living there again, the door was suddenly opened.
As if frozen, Sara watched the young man walk out with a bag of rubbish. Wearing a white shirt and white pants, he looked just like Cupid under the orange light. His handsome face was a masterpiece of heaven, flawless and captivating. His skin, especially, was fairer and smoother than women.
"Ahem!" Sara realized her rudeness to stare at him and coughed in embarrassment. She pointed at her door and said, "I'm your neighbor. You're going to throw the rubbish? I..."
Before she could finish her words, the man cast an indifferent glance at her and walked past her expressionlessly.
Irritated and surprised, she opened her mouth slightly.
