Chapter 11 Provocation

Since they got married, Sara had seldom seen Kent reveal such an expression, even when he faced those beauties.

But somehow, she felt the gentle side of him was more attractive and charming.

"Kent, I miss you so much! Do you miss me?" Janet threw her arms around his neck and lifted her pretty face. Her eyelashes flashed, showing an air of seduction.

Kent smiled slightly and nodded. He took her hand before turning to Sara, who had been ignored. In a flat tone, he introduced, "This is Sara, your sister-in-law."

Janet's gaze roamed over Sara for only several seconds and went back to Kent. Lips pouted, she murmured, "I've no idea how grandpa's mind works! Why did he have you marry a steward's daughter? She doesn't match you at all!"

The voice was not loud, but Sara heard it clearly.

And yet, she pretended as if she hadn't heard it. Enthusiastically, she stepped forward and greeted, "Janet, welcome back. Grandpa has asked Mrs. Cook to prepare a hearty meal. Let's go home now!" She walked to Kent's side and took his arm. There was a faint smile on her comely face like nothing had happened.

Kent was no stranger to her endurance. With a frown, he glanced at her hand on his arm and waved it off in a natural manner.

His behavior was caught by Janet. She revealed a mockery smile and held his arm intimately, squeezing Sara aside. Then, she walked toward the exit with him cheerfully.

On the way back to the Fitch's, Janet had been cuddling up against Kent and telling her life abroad with rapture. Sitting in a corner, Sara couldn't get a word in.

She felt envious and sad. If she didn't know Kent or Janet, she would think they were a couple passionately in love!

When the car drove into the yard, the smile on Janet's face faded. She blinked her big eyes and asked with worry, "Has grandpa really forgiven me?"

Kent lowered his eyelids, gazing at her with affection. He stroked her long hair and replied in a soft voice, "Yes, and I won't let anyone hurt you again."

To ease her uneasiness, he added, "Trust me, will you?"

Eyes lit up, she nodded, "Yes, I trust you."

Sara, having been neglected all the way, watched them get off the car together. Helpless, she said, "Kent?"

Kent turned around and finally noticed Sara. With a frown, he said impatiently, "Get off the car and follow us into the house!"

She felt more than heavy in her heart. She was his wife! Why was he unwilling to have one more look at her? Why?

What was the meaning of such a marriage? She was really confused now. Should she go on like this?

Seeing her sour face, he paused and then walked up to her. In a malicious voice, he said, "Please don't show this glum face to grandpa after you go in. No one owes you anything, Sara White!"

She pressed her lips together. Without a word, she walked past him to the villa.

When she passed Janet, she was suddenly tripped by something. The next second, she fell forward onto her face.

"Oh, Sara, are you all right?" Janet bent her body to see Sara's dirty face gloatingly.

"Janet, why did you trip me?" Sara repressed her anger and questioned the woman with a "pure" grin.

Janet blinked her big eyes innocently and asked with confusion, "Sara, what do you mean? You lost your footing and fell. How could you blame me for that?"

"Janet, I've got no beef with you. Your mischief really doesn't fit your age..." Before Sara could finish her words, Janet suddenly had tears falling down her face.

Seeing that, Kent hurried over. He looked at the awkward woman on the ground and scolded coldly, "Janet has just come back. Could you please stop making trouble?"

Sara was stricken to the heart with an utterly pale look. Why? Why did he wrong her like this? Was she such a vicious woman in his heart?
