Chapter 7 The Lewis Family
Bree sat in the passenger seat, stealing occasional glances at the man's grim side face.
He was apparently in a lousy mood this day.
To be exact, he had been in a bad mood after receiving that phone call the day before.
Bree initially thought they would talk about her sending him to the police station. However, after that call, Leo said, "Come with me to the Lewis Family tomorrow." He then went upstairs alone.
Bree guessed that the Lewis Family should be Leo's family.
Usually, when a person mentioned his family, he would not put the surname before it, like what he was talking about was unrelated to him.
From this detail, Bree inferred that Leo's relationship with his family was poor.
As for the reason, Bree could not figure it out unless Leo told her directly.
Leo was aware of the woman's glances, and he wanted to tell her something so that she would not make things difficult for him. But he did not know how to start, and there were things he did not want to recall.
Leo then thought to himself, "Well, forget it. I should be good enough to protect her."
At the mansion of the Lewis Family...
"It's almost eleven o'clock. Why isn't Leo's back yet?"
Hilda Forrest said while observing Hervey's expression. Upon seeing his gloomy face, she hurried to lower her head, saying, "Mrs. Watts and I have made an appointment to go to a spa today. I actually should be leaving. May I..."
"You sit tight," Hervey sternly interrupted Hilda.
"But..." Hilda looked at Hervey with embarrassment.
"Dad, don't give Mom a hard time."
Oliver Lewis came down from upstairs, snorting, "Leo never plays nice with Mom over these years. You called him to come home for dinner last night, and Mom prepared various delicious dishes. But so what? He probably still won't say anything nice to Mom."
"Oliver, you shut up!" Hilda snapped, then turned to Hervey, whose face was pale, and said, "Harvey, ignore Oliver, please. Leo is still young. Besides, I indeed should be held accountable for what happened to his mother back then. It's natural for him to nurse hatred against me."
Hilda's last two sentences hit Hervey's sore point and made him fly into a tantrum. "His mother committed suicide!"
"He's almost thirty, and you still think he's too young to be a sensible man?" Hervey got angrier and angrier. "For years, he disobeyed me in every way. He stayed abroad for ten years and didn't see me as his father at all!"
Hilda, fearing that the man would suffer a heart attack, hurried forward to gently rub his chest.
"Calm down. Don't get mad."
"Exactly." Oliver came over, poured Hervey a cup of tea, and said, "Dad, you still have me, don't you? Just calm down."
Hervey's anger slowly dissipated as Hilda and Oliver soothed him in cooperation.
"Is Mrs. Watts you mentioned Harold Watts's wife?"
"Yes." Hilda nodded with a smile, "Didn't you say earlier that you had a project to work on with Harold? I've been talking to Mrs. Watts for a while, and Harold's pretty serious about working with the Lewis Group too!"
Hervey thought for a moment and then said, "As I recall, Harold has a daughter."
"Yes, Patrice. She's a bit chubby, but she's a nice, innocent girl."
"Well, why don't you call her and invite her over for lunch?"
Hilda looked at Oliver and said hesitantly, "But isn't the lunch today supposed to be a family get-together? Is it appropriate for Patrice to come over?"
"What's wrong with that?" Hervey said meaningfully, "We may soon become family!"
