Chapter 14 Your Eyes Betrayed You
The math teacher, as if amnestied, hastened away. Before his departure, he took a glance at Nancy and sighed slightly.
Nancy was a good student and quite likely to be recommended to the famous S University, but such a thing happened. The school couldn't really stand the pressure from Ned.
Nancy had to be sacrificed and might be expelled from school.
The math teacher had been teaching for over a decade and couldn't help taking pity on the promising girl.
Nancy stood in front of Ned with a ponytail common among students since the school forbade disheveled hair. Without a bang, her fair, pretty face was revealed. She had that kind of innocence unique to students.
When Ned looked at her, she was looking down at the test sheets. Her long eyelashes trembled slightly.
Her speculation was correct. These were Whitney's and her answer sheets.
"Do you know why I call you here?"
Ned asked.
Nancy raised her eyes, looked him in the eye, and shook her head, "No."
Ned leaned back in the chair, crossed his fingers before his chest, and examined her look. His gaze was terrifying.
Nancy straightened up her neck, and her eyes betrayed no panic.
"You don't? Then why are you looking at the answer sheets as soon as you come in? Are you worried that I can't see through your guilt?"
"I don't get it, just put it straight."
Ned picked up an answer sheet and handed it to Nancy, "Okay, I'll make it straightforward. Whitney's answer sheet was written by you."
Nancy took a glance at the sheet but didn't take it. She had imitated Whitney's handwriting with her best meticulousness.
Besides, according to Whitney, Ned was not familiar with her handwriting.
She speculated his suspicion arose from his knowledge of Whitney's poor math skills and the almost perfect answer sheet. He didn't believe Whitney could do it and thus questioned her.
He meant to force her to confess on her own. If he was so certain, he should have had her transferred directly without any question.
Nancy collected herself and spoke in a calm voice, "I had a period during the math test and thus didn't perform well. Don't be overcautious, but I didn't help Whitney with the test. If you don't believe me, call her in and ask her."
Facing the diehard, Nancy slightly curled up his lips and bowed his head, "Go get her."
Nancy unhurriedly nodded and headed out.
In a while, Whitney and Nancy came in side by side. To Whitney, he was no longer that kind. Picking up an iron ruler, he tapped the desk forcefully.
Frightened by that, Whitney immediately hid behind Nancy, and her legs felt weak, "N... Nancy, w... what to do..."
Nancy grabbed her hand, "Don't worry, you've got me. I'll take the beating."
Hiding behind Nancy, Whitney pushed her to walk forward.
"Come out!"
Ned reprimanded.
Whitney closed her eyes, hardened her will, and came out from behind Nancy, "Ned, what are you doing here? You've been so idle lately to mind my business."
"If I weren't your uncle, I wouldn't care about you."
Whitney's father was usually serving in the army while her mother had a busy job as a chief procurator. So, Whitney's parents' meetings were usually attended by Ned. In the beginning, he didn't like to care about her, but she and her friends were busted for drugs in the second grade.
Ned kept the matter a secret and had been keeping a close eye on her in case she went astray.
Whitney pursed her lips and muttered, "Mind your own business."
