Edwin's voice was like a switch to bring Effie back to reality in an instant.

She took a deep breath and stared at the man with bloodshot eyes. "That's none of your business!"

It was because of Edwin, Effie's life became like this. She lost her virginity to Edwin due to Celia's trick, gave birth to a child, and lived in those horrible memories all the time.

At this moment, a breeze brought a hint of coolness. Effie took a deep breath and tried to calm herself down.

After a few seconds of silence, her voice sounded.

"He is my son!" Her tone was steadfast, without the slightest hesitation.

Edwin's facial expression suddenly became gloomy and icy. "Who is his father?"

Effie looked up at the man. For some reason, her tone grew standoffish with apparent ridicule. "Mr. Bennett, that has nothing to do with you. We are divorced, and our marriage lasted for only one day. You don't think I'll refuse to move on because of you, do you?"

"Is that man with you earlier your kid's father?" Edwin's voice was icy and dreary, and the look in his eyes was hideous.

"No! He is just a friend." Effie did not want to get Nolan into any trouble. Also, she was desperate to keep a distance from Edwin and get rid of him as soon as possible. The furious voice from hell interrupted Effie's lies.

Effie flashed an indifferent smile, saying, "Rest assured! I don't want to see you either!" With that, she turned to head towards the supermarket as nothing had happened.

The man stared at the woman's back till it disappeared from his deep, cold gaze. His initially tightly furrowed brows loosened slightly in the breeze, and his lips were curled up in an arc of self-mockery.

He thought to himself, "Woman, for five years, I cannot get you out of my mind. Yet, you're living a new life like I was nothing.

Great. I'll grant your wish!"

Early the next morning, Effie received a phone call from Katie, saying she needed to sign a supplementary agreement because the candidate replaced the leading female role.

Effie then left for Star Entertainment without much thinking.

When she entered the conference room, she saw no one else but Cliff. Even Katie was not around.

"Katie is busy. Miss Fletcher, let me talk to you with the contract." Cliff put a cup of coffee in front of the woman and got seated. "Here is the contract. Please have a look and sign your name if you're fine with it."
