Chapter 17 You Should Be a Scout

Before Cliff finished his words, a busy tone came from the other end of the line.

"Damn! Hang up on me again!" Cliff complained.

However, seeing the lifelong works authorization contract that Effie had signed, Cliff's mood instantly improved. With this, he would get the yacht that Edwin had promised him to purchase.

He decided that the grievances he was suffering were totally worthwhile.

In the hospital, after handing in the operation fee, all Effie could do was to wait. Luckily, the surgery went smoothly.

However, as Grandma's physique was weak and she suffered from various issues, including excessive blood loss, she stayed in a coma until waking up three days later. Eventually, Effie felt relieved.

It had been a crazy couple of days. Effie looked haggard, and her face was even paler.

"Effie, why don't you go home and have a good rest." Herman looked at his sister with distress. "You can rest assured as I'll stay here."

"Don't worry. I'm fine, and it's much easier for me to take care of Grandma." Effie turned to look at her son, asking, "Dylan, did you miss Mommy?" No sooner had her hand touched Dylan's cheek than her mobile phone rang.

"I'll take this." Effie checked the caller ID, then walked out of the ward with the phone in hand. "Hello, Katie?"

"Isla, how's Grandma? Is she feeling better?"

"Much better, thanks!"

"That's great!" Katie heaved a sigh of relief, continuing, "Then I suppose you can attend the company dinner party tonight!"

"What dinner party?" Effie wondered.

"The dinner party for Girl in the Dark's starting up. It will be held at W Hotel at 8 o'clock this evening. Do come, please!"

"The dinner party for starting up the show?" Effie was confused. "Do I need to be there?"

Effie did not think there was such a rule or something.

"Of course! You are the author and screenwriter of Girl in the Dark. I mean, you're like the mother of the show and simply the most needed person to show up at the party." Katie expressed her opinion rhetorically, then emphasized by saying, "So, don't be late!"

"But..." Without giving Effie a chance to speak, Katie hung up.

Effie looked at the black mirror on her phone and had to swallow her words about to turn the invitation down.

"Effie, go and get busy." Herman walked over with a sensible look in his eyes. "I'll take care of Dylan and Grandma. No worries!"

After glancing at Grandma lying in the sickbed and Dylan playing with a Professor's Cube, she finally nodded in agreement.

She went home for a simple wash, changed into a black V-neck evening dress, and went out with light makeup.

When she arrived at W Hotel, it was exactly eight o'clock.

Upon seeing Effie, Katie walked over to her swiftly.

"Gee, Isla, you look gorgeous! Have you ever considered entering the showbiz?"

"The showbiz only opens its door to people with outstanding appearances. Not the place for me, apparently." Effie flashed a smile and walked towards the hall side by side with Katie.

"Come on, Isla. You must have a misunderstanding of your own appearance." Katie was surprised and responded to the other woman with a certain look in her eyes. "Listen, as long as you are willing. You will become an award-winning actress with your pretty face!"

Effie could not help laughing. "Katie, it's a pity that you don't work as a talent scout."

"How do you know I want to be a scout? I'm telling you..."

Before Katie could finish her words, noises coming from the doorway drew their attention, and both of them turned to look.

"Gosh! Big Boss? Why is he here?" Katie was shocked and exclaimed immediately.

"Isn't it kind of normal for the boss to appear at the company's dinner party?" Effie looked at Katie in puzzlement.

"Not ours, unfortunately. Our boss never shows up unless it's something severe. Most of all..." Katie was excited, saying, "He's super handsome!"

Effie revealed a light smile and said nothing.

"It seems that you don't buy my words, do you? You'll see!" Katie grabbed Effie and walked in the direction of the door.

"I buy your words. I believe you, alright?" Effie hurried to give in. Still, she was dragged to the spot.

"Boss..." Katie broke through the crowd and pushed Effie forward with an excited expression. "This is the author and screenwriter of Girl in the Dark, Miss Isabella."

Effie was shocked. How could Katie introduce her to a stranger all of a sudden?

Given no other choice, Effie had to lift her head to greet the boss out of courtesy. However, the moment she did so, her body stiffened up all over, and her heart started to beat fast. How could this be possible?

Witnessing the shocked look in Effie's eyes, Katie said proudly, "Right? I told you!"

At this moment, the man squinted his eyes slightly to look at Effie exploringly, "Isabella?"
