Chapter 14 Rebellion

"Miss Miller, please sit here." A gentle voice as warm as the spring breeze eased up the tension in the room.

David pulled out a chair across from Jim and smiled at Sophia.

Sophia clenched her fists, forced herself to nod to the butler, and then sat down.

Only then did Skylar heave a sigh of relief. Now she was more careful with her speech and behavior.

Everyone in Ozark City knew about one rule. They could afford to offend the Gates family but not Mr. Brown.

The Gates family was a noble clan well-known across Ozark City. Half of the political figures in Mega were connected with the Gates family. Moreover, the patriarch of the family held the supreme power of the country over lives and properties.

But to Jim, they were not good enough. It was not his power but his means that surpassed the Gates family.

No one knew his means because those who did were all dead.

It might sound farfetched but was the truth.

"Mr. Brown, this goose paw with abalone sauce looks so good. Would you like to try it?" Skylar gritted her teeth and picked up a goose paw with a smile. Instead of directly putting it into his plate, she waited for his response.

She finally had the opportunity to approach this legendary man and should get his attention as best as she could.

Jim took an indifferent look at it and then nodded his head.

Delighted, Skylar immediately put the paw on his plate and looked at him expectantly.

Jim calmly picked up the paw, sent it to his mouth, and took a bite. The simple movement was somehow done by him so nobly and gracefully.

"Good, you should try it too." Jim said with satisfaction, picked up one goose palm, and put it into her bowl.

Sophia's hand trembled abruptly, thus dropping the chopsticks.

Jim looked at her, narrowed his eyes slightly, and curled up his lips playfully, "Miss Miller, can't you even hold the chopsticks?"

"Sorry." She paled and clasped her fingers tightly into her palms.

The smile on his face became more distinct, "David, get another pair of chopsticks for Miss Miller. We can't neglect the guest."

"Yes, sir."

David soon fetched a pair of new chopsticks and placed them in front of Sophia.

"Miss Miller, here you are."

"Thank you." Sophia took a deep breath and forced a smile at David.

"Miss Miller, you're welcome." David also smiled faintly.

Her smile, simply out of courtesy, offended Jim's eyes.

She showed painful tears to him but beamed at other men!

Sophia, you were really a bitch!

Jim slammed his chopsticks down on the table and snarled, "David, get out!"

Both Skylar and Sophia were startled by the thud, but David remained composed as if he had been used to Jim's manners.

"Yes, sir."

His gentle voice was a sharp contrast to that of Jim. At the sight of Jim's fiery eyes, Sophia suddenly felt sorry for David. In a fit of pique, she spoke up, "Jim, vent your spleen on me. What has it got to do with David?"

Jim's pupils contracted abruptly, and he asked in an icy voice, "Are you speaking up for him?"

Every word was tinged with the master's anger.

"I just can't stand your domineering manners!" She could tolerate his humiliation because she deserved it and got herself to blame. However, she couldn't bear to see him venting his anger on innocent people.

She was not a doormat!
