Contemporary Romance>The Tester of Marriage>Chapter 21 The Deal
Chapter 21 The Deal
With her head bowed, Emma silently walked up to the man. Her eyes happened to land upon the contract on the table, and she could not help looking at it twice.
Trial Marriage Contract?
What was that?
"You've noticed the file, haven't you? You lost the game last night. As you promised, you'll listen to me henceforward. Now, sign this contract."
Emma froze, and her fair face was still tinged with confusion and dullness left by last night's drunkenness. Upon seeing her reaction, the expression in the man's eyes deepened.
"Let's have a trial marriage. I'll give you a hundred million yuan in return." The man stared at Emma closely. "And the trial will last for a year."
One hundred million yuan?
Emma repeated the astronomical figure several times in her mind. At least for her, the figure was astronomical.
A hundred million, a hundred million... This year of trial marriage's remuneration was equivalent to countless years of her being the chief marriage tester.
That was genuinely attractive.
However...
"I am a chief marriage tester. You shall at least pay me two hundred million yuan." Emma stretched out two fair fingers with a proud expression in her pretty eyes.
At this moment, she had no idea that she was about to sell herself to the man at the price of two hundred million yuan.
The man blinked his long eyes slightly and opened his thin lips to say, "Deal!"
Emma initially thought Wilson would regard her bargaining as a silly show. Unexpectedly, he actually agreed to her proposal without any scruple.
Two hundred million yuan. Seriously?
Emma took a deep breath, then looked at Wilson in confusion. "I thought you would ask me to leave but not..."
"Grandpa wants me to get married early. Otherwise, he won't let me take over the board of directors."
His words were few, but they were informative indeed.
"I see." The last shred of defense in Emma's eyes dissipated. It was normal that marriages in wealthy and influential families were related to interests. Wilson needed the trial marriage because he wanted to become in charge of the board of directors. By then, the marriage would end naturally.
She would not suffer any loss.
Quite the opposite, she would get a large sum of two hundred million yuan.
Emma sat down on the chair, opened the trial marriage contract to read, then raised her hand.
The man narrowed his eyes slightly and said, "Go ahead."
"First, I will continue my work during the trial marriage."
Emma could not exit from the workplace and become a full-time housewife for the supposedly hidden marriage.
"No problem."
"Second, we'll sleep in different beds during the period. Neither of us could bring our real lover to the house."
The man lifted his head and squinted his eyes slightly, then said, "Fine by me."
"Then I have no more terms to add." Emma hurriedly signed the contract in duplicate and put away hers, then asked, "President Hayes, may I leave now?"
"It's not a working day today."
Emma paused for one second and said, "Yeah, I know. I want to go home to catch more sleep."
"I'll take you home."
Wilson slowly rose to his feet, his slender figure giving Emma an inexplicable sense of oppression.
Emma swallowed, then said, "That's not necessary. I can go home by myself."
"We're fetching your residence booklet to get our marriage licenses."
"What?" Why was he in such a hurry?
"The contract comes into effect today. We're collecting our licenses and getting married."
With her eyes narrowed, Emma thought about the terms she had just read, then nodded. "Okay!"
Emma felt like dreaming when she held the marriage license and even so when the sum of two hundred million yuan was transferred to her banking account.
"I'll take you home." Emma's brand-new, perfect husband offered to help.
The woman thought of her uncle in the hospital, then said softly, "You don't have to as I'm going to the hospital."
"Okay, I'll have someone pick you up later."
"Thanks." She put the marriage license casually in her bag, then hailed a taxi to The First Hospital.
