Chapter 22 The Slap
The First Hospital was the best in City Y and the most expensive one in medical care. Previously, Emma only had enough money for Benjamin Porter's chemotherapy, but not enough to get him into a VIP ward. When she arrived at the hospital, the first thing Emma did was to find Benjamin's attending doctor and asked him to carry out the surgery for Benjamin and fitted her uncle in a better ward, and hired a senior caregiver for him.
Uncle Benjamin was the person who loved her most after her mother's death, and she had to keep him alive.
Emma stayed in the hospital to take care of Benjamin until after 9:00 p.m.
Strangely enough, Wilson did not contact her at all. But that was fine. Their trial marriage was no different from any fake one, so Emma did not need to explore her potential to be someone's wife.
It was raining outside. When Emma stood in front of the hospital and waited for a taxi, a familiar white BMW appeared in her hazy vision. She squinted her eyes to see a man and a woman coming out of the BMW, and a gleam of brilliance swiftly crossed her eyes.
"Isn't that Sister Emma? Emma, why are you standing in front of the hospital at this late hour? Did you..." Mary pretended to cover her mouth in shock and looked at Emma with great contempt. "Did you come here for an abortion?"
Then, Mary held the man's arm with a smug expression on her face.
Emma looked at the man with interest.
James's facial expression was deadly gloomy, and the look in his eyes was vicious and poisonous. "Emma!"
"Long time no see, James. Congratulations that your company has got excluded from a huge project, and you now have more time to keep your fiancée company."
Emma's smile was coquettish, flirtatious, and charming.
Although James was furious, he was stunned by Emma's beauty for one second.
Mary hurriedly blocked James's view and raised her chin at Emma, asking, "Guess why James and I are here at the hospital tonight?"
Emma tilted her head to one side and said dismissively, "To get an abortion."
"That's nonsense. I'll tell Dad about it!"
"I'm no longer related to the Brooks family." Emma glanced at Mary, continuing, "I hope you have made sure that the man is really worthy of you."
"What do you mean? You ruined my business yesterday, and now what? Trying to alienate Mary from me? What are your intentions?"
Emma tilted her head, saying, "I want your life to be a living hell. Isn't my intention obvious?"
At the woman's words, James raised his hand, intending to hit Emma. Mary pretended to be scared but was actually looking at Emma with an excited expression in her eyes.
Ever since they were both kids, Mary hated Emma, who was better than her in any way, more than anything in this world. Although Benjamin took Emma away to City T, she immediately deprived Mary of her spotlight when she came back. Mary liked James, but Emma easily drew his attention.
Mary vowed that she would take everything away from Emma.
Emma was no match for James. Even though she was mentally prepared, she failed to dodge his attack.
Bang. A crisp slap sounded on Emma's cheek.
The pain was sharp, burning together with humiliation and hatred.
"I didn't expect you to slap me for real." Emma burst out laughing in extreme fury.
James also did not expect himself to slap Emma for real. In fact, he genuinely liked Emma before. However, Benson was not fond of Emma, and Emma constantly refused him to touch her. Thus, James abandoned Emma and climbed into Mary's bed.
After slapping Emma in the cheek, James froze.
