Chapter 12 No Happiness Lies in Reluctance
"Not everyone is able to be given such a chance."
Ryan's voice was gentle, but the pride in his tone was unequivocally caught by Sophia.
This man looked humble on the surface but was deep down wild and unrestrained.
"Mr. Dixon, have you always been so direct in your pursuit of women?" Sophia asked nonchalantly.
Staring at the woman, Ryan said gravely, "I've never pursued any woman before but you."
Sophia suddenly got a headache. She did not expect follow-up stories between them at all.
Why did the man want to get involved with her?
Sophia was once a victim of love. Therefore, she did not want to enter any serious relationship at this point.
The woman was victimized by her obsession with her boyfriend in the previous life. This time, she just wanted to take revenge and was not interested in falling in love.
"Mr. Dixon, I just turned eighteen and am a young college girl. The school doesn't want us to fall in love."
After Sophia returned to the Anderson family, the family used their contacts to stuff her into Golden City Noble University, a private college, which had explicit rules against campus love.
But in the 21st century, that rule was essentially null and void, which Sophia, of course, was not going to tell Ryan.
Ryan raised his long, dark brows slightly while approaching Sophia slowly.
As soon as Ryan got closer to her, Sophia backed up warily. The woman took one step back, and the man took two steps forward. Finally, Sophia was cornered between the flower garden of the traffic police station and the man.
He leaned down slightly to move his handsome face in front of Sophia, smiling. "Are you sure you're still young?"
His warm breathing sprayed upon Sophia's face, and his faint sandalwood scent drifted into the woman's nostrils.
The memory of last night came back a little bit, and Sophia's cheeks were tinted with a touch of pink.
The enchanting fiery clouds in the sky reflected upon Sophia's face, like a layer of fine rouge. Her peachy cheeks made her face look like a delicate flower bud on a lush tree. She was pretty enough to fascinate mortal beings.
A trace of gloom crossed Ryan's deep eyes, his warm breaths spraying on Sophia's face. As the blush in her cheek scattered in all directions, even her ears were reddened.
She pressed the wooden box in her hand against Ryan's chest and glared at him with a blushed face. "What are you doing? Let go of me immediately."
Ryan admired Sophia's shy look, and his mood became happy. He let her go as he was told, then said, "I'm making a move on you, and that's my business. I'm just letting you know. It's eventually your business to accept me or not. But I won't accept your rejection."
Evan, who had been ignored on one side, was stunned upon hearing Ryan's words. His boss used to regard women as rubbish and never showed any interest in any females.
Evan and his colleagues once believed that Ryan would stay single for the rest of his life.
It turned out that Ryan showed no interest in women because no women could arouse his interest. Once he was intrigued indeed, he acted swiftly.
Sophia froze too. With her flowery eyes fixed upon Ryan, traces of brilliance poppled in them.
Ryan gazed at the woman with determination in his wild, deep eyes.
After a good while, Sophia finally came to her senses. At the thought of the man's claim, the corners of her mouth twitched slightly.
The man simply was not giving her any right to choose.
As Ryan said, it had nothing to do with Sophia that he liked her. He was just telling her about it.
He liked her and was determined to get her.
For a moment, Sophia was conquered by Ryan's arrogance.
She took a deep breath and sincerely persuaded him by saying, "Mr. Dixon, I don't think we're suitable for each other. I grew up in the countryside. So, I am not as well-educated as you, and my behavior is vulgar. Even my family is ashamed of my existence. I can tell from your extraordinary temperament that you must come from a wealthy and influential family. You are up in the sky while I'm down on the earth. With no similarities between our backgrounds, we won't lead a happy life even if we end up being together."
