Chapter 16 Woke up in Her Arms
"Ben?"
Gabrielle found that the man in her arms, who now seemed like a wretch engulfed in terror, was in such a terrible state that he could not hear her.
She looked around, wondering if she could get him out of the dark place. But her attempts failed because there was no light or exit except darkness.
Besides, it was impossible to call someone for help as there was no signal in this basement.
What should she do?
Gabrielle clenched her hand in a panic.
The phone!
Suddenly it occurred to her that her phone could provide light, which might be helpful for Ben.
Fumbling with her phone, Gabrielle turned on its flashlight and shone it on the man's face.
"Ben, don't be afraid. Look, there's light. We will soon be able to get out of here!"
Generally, when those who had claustrophobia entered a closed or dark environment, they would lose their control for overwhelming fear of fainting or something terrible.
Therefore, with the hope to allay his anxiety and fear, Gabrielle created the light and told him not to be afraid and that they would soon get out.
It indeed worked. His muscle stopped twitching, and his breathing became steady in seconds.
Although Ben fell asleep instead of being conscious, Gabrielle breathed a sigh of relief.
Ben had just looked so painful that she thought he was going to die at any moment.
Gabrielle held up her phone, from which the light shone on the man's face, reflecting his handsome features.
His skin was as smooth as silk, and his eyelashes were as long as a brush.
"No wonder my boys' eyelashes are so long at such a young age..." Gabrielle murmured with a gentle look on her face.
In fact, there was nothing but a grudge against Ben in her heart over these years. But her resolution to revenge him had wavered since she knew that Ben did not marry Joyce.
Gabrielle shook off her head and told herself, "Gabrielle, you can't be hesitant. Think of your girl. How poor she is! Even if he did not marry Joyce, he is still the culprit of your daughter's death. You must be resolute and make him pay the price!
The hatred reemerging in the bottom of her heart dispelled her sympathy for him.
Her stare at the man sleeping in his arms became icy.
"Ben, you must be alive. I will make you pay back what you owe my girl and me." Gabrielle loosened her hands with a cold expression on her face.
Asleep as he was, Ben seemed to sense that she was about to leave. He suddenly wrapped his arms around her waist, buried his head in her arms, and held her tightly.
Gabrielle was frozen, "..."
When did he wake up? Did he hear what she had said?
"Gabrielle... Gabrielle..." Ben murmured.
Gabrielle looked at him with hints of surprise in her eyes.
Was he calling her name?
Gabrielle... Did he mean his wife?
That was impossible.
Since he had never loved her, how could he remember her while he was unconscious?
Gabrielle found her thought ridiculous.
The old days with Ben like a movie recurred in her mind.
Those days were about humiliation, depression, and pain. The only happy time was when she learned that she was pregnant with his child. But he had shattered her dreams, broken her heart, killed her once, and killed her daughter...
Gabrielle's heart sank to the bottom when she thought of her daughter.
'My girl, my girl...'
...
When Ben got awake from sleep, he felt like his eyes were being shone by a strong light, which made him unable to open his eyes.
He was about to reach out to cover his eyes when he felt a touch of softness in his hand and a fragrant smell.
He blinked hard and finally opened his eyes.
