Chapter 3 I'm Back
"What's wrong?"
Noticing that Brandi didn't seem happy, Sophia doubted if she had made the right decision.
Brandi shook her head, "I'm okay. I just have a feeling that Grandma must be very nice."
When they entered the hall, they saw Madame Hank staring at them as well. She was solemn, and her thin body became haggard after her son disappeared. Her cheekbones looked higher than before.
Being the matriarch of this family for a lifetime had gifted her a formidable aura. Combined with her serious face, the kids would never want to get close to her.
That was why Brandi had been kept her distance from her in her previous life.
She always behaved herself in front of Madame Hank.
Later, after studying abroad, she learned from the calls they made that Madame Hank had always wanted to enjoy a good time with her grandchildren, yet none of them dared to approach her.
Even Brandi was already the closest one among all.
Brandi smiled sweetly upon seeing Madame Hank. What she had missed in her previous life wouldn't happen again this time.
She masked her scheming gaze, smiled to expose her buckteeth, and greeted, "Grandma!"
The childish and innocent voice almost melted Madame Hank's heart.
There was a softness in Madame Hank's eyes. This was Christopher's daughter. What a lovely girl.
"What's your name?"
"Sophia McKenzie," Sophia answered in a shaky voice. She didn't even dare to raise her head, so she thought Madame Hank asked her the question and replied obediently.
Brandi didn't realize until now that her mother was afraid of Madame Hank.
The latter was actually a nice woman, yet her face and aura brought fear to others.
Brandi almost avoided every time she might run into Madame Hank when she first got here before.
But not this time.
"And you?" Madame Hank was trying to ask her nicely, but she wasn't used to acting gently yet. That also explained why her voice sounded weird.
Brandi walked before Madame Hank and answered, "Grandma, I'm Brandi McKenzie."
Madame Hank frowned, feeling disappointed.
"From now on, your name is Ellinette Hank."
Grandma changed her name. Brandi was so delighted that it was happening again.
Madame Hank also told her that the name meant generous and natural.
Deeply, Madame Hank wished her to stay true to herself even if she had to survive in the Hank Family.
The name was full of love.
But others told her that Madame Hank only named her that way casually.
Her smiling face and the two buckteeth just made her delectable.
"That sounds beautiful! Thank you, Grandma! But I'd like to wait for daddy to change it! I believe he will come back!"
Madame Hank had long been solemn and resolute, having trouble being nice.
But she couldn't help feeling touched upon hearing that her son could come back.
So, she said, "Yeah, why not?"
At least that could offer her hope that her son would be back someday.
After all, he had a daughter who was still waiting for him to name her!
Sophia seemed curbed, curling herself up as if she didn't even exist.
Madame Hank was displeased to see so. How could Sophia take charge of the third branch and keep it going if she was a timid woman?
She sighed inwardly that she had to spend more time on Sophia so that the latter could learn more.
So, she continued, "Now that you are back, you'll have to give up some of your bad habits."
Brandi knew Madame Hank didn't mean it even if she said so.
Brandi had done terrible things in her previous life, but Grandma trusted her and loved her all the time.
Grandma was always on her side and backed her up no matter how others slandered her.
"Yes, Madame," Sophia replied in fear.
"Will do, Grandma," Brandi said in a good mood.
She was back!
With her loving grandmother and mother, all Brandi expected was to see her father, a little dull but very responsible man.
Brandi had gone back to the village in the previous life to sort through her mother's stuff after the latter was gone. It turned out that Sophia had loved Christopher all the time.
Unfortunately, she was too shy to confess and even became the girlfriend of Christopher's friend.
Sophia was thrilled to come back as Christopher's wife, even if it was just in name.
But she died a month later and missed his return.
