Chapter 9 Home on Water
A drowsy Janice raised her head. Who was disturbing her sleep?
A pair of cool eyes came into view. "Anything?" She asked.
"Here is my notebook. I hope it can help you with your studies."
The boy looked clean. His brows were bushy and his eyes shiny.
The girls all around immediately looked at Janice enviously.
Wow!!!
Cristian Ferguson, the hottest guy in this school, was talking to Janice. It was crazy.
Why weren't they so lucky?
Compared to the average boys, Cristian was much more handsome.
Janice, however, wasn't quite interested since she had seen much of Kameron's stunning face. She eyed the notebook.
After a moment of hesitation, she replied indifferently, "Thanks, but I don't really need it."
So…
She didn't appreciate his kindness?
The hottest guy on campus accosted her and lent her his notebook!
And Janice turned him down!
The blood of the girls all around was boiling, but they had to hold back their indignance.
Cristian didn't show the slightest displeasure on his gentle face. Far from it, he kept smiling, "This test is very important, so don't hold back. I think the questions will be drawn from what we've learned in class. This will be helpful to you."
Holding back?
Janice gave a puzzled expression.
Did she look reserved to him?
Cristian lowered his voice, "Janice, I'll plead to the board of directors for you. Mr. Pierce will not have his way. I know that he has taken bribes and thus makes things difficult for you."
He then looked askance at Reina in her seat.
He was implying something.
"How are you going to help me? Produce evidence of bribery?" Still not impressed, Janice arched her brow.
She had her own sources of information.
In fact, the evidence was already in her hands.
"Although I don't have the evidence, I can persuade the board of directors to give you another chance. As long as you go over the lessons carefully and I tutor you a little, you'll pass the exam." Said Cristian.
He was nosy but concerned about her.
Janice rarely put away her usual coldness towards unfamiliar people, saying, "I'll take the notebook. Your tutoring is unnecessary since I'm sort of a self-learner."
Deep down, she was thinking about another thing. If Mr. Hahn learned that a boy tutored her, she would be spanked for sure.
Puppy love and intimacy were his taboos.
She was not allowed to get close to boys before the age of 20.
In this aspect, Mr. Hahn was such a fogey against the grain.
He was so conservative and lived in the Tutor Dynasty.
He was so behind the times that he didn't allow her to have any close contact with the opposite sex before she came of age.
After school, Janice went back to the Marshal's House.
Holding a glass of fresh juice made by Aleena, she sat on the soft leather sofa and looked at the view out of the floor-to-ceiling window.
The Marshal's House was built on the water.
It was surrounded by a lotus pond. During summertime, blooming lotus flowers could be seen all around.
Only two arch bridges led to the outside.
Near the lotus pond, various rare flowers were planted.
Those flowers of the season were cultivated by flower companies.
Colorful and romantic flowers could be seen year-round.
When a gust of wind blew past, people could smell the fragrance.
She heard that the Marshal's residence was not like this before. It changed after she moved in.
Mr. Hahn asked her about her dream home.
The eight-year-old Janice, still immersed in the grief of losing her parents, unrealistically answered that she wanted to live on the water and in the flowers.
Unexpectedly, Mr. Hahn made it real for her.
In the penthouse…
He designed the cement roof in person.
The floor was paved with river stones that formed the pattern of her name. On all sides stood a circle of cement railing.
Precious water lilies were placed along the railing. Inside the tanks, there was also Janice's favorite fish.
The costly jade tables and stools were specially designed and placed.
This was Mr. Hahn and her little world.
While sitting on the terrace, Janice looked at the sea of flowers planted by Mr. Hahn.
How she wished summer could come soon!
By then, she would see the pond full of lotus flowers. When she walked past the bridge, she would smell the light fragrance of the lotus.
All of a sudden, she saw a Studebaker coming in under the escort of other cars.
Janice trotted downstairs.
Sure enough.
Mr. Hahn came back.
The slim man leaned against the sofa and flicked the cigarette ash. His face was icy.
The air about him was stern and cold.
Did anything happen at the base?
"Come here, Janice." He stubbed out the cigarette in the ashtray. Against the light, his slightly raised jaw reflected coldness and gave people chills.
