Chapter 9 Who Did This to You
She raised her head and saw Murphy in a suit. Out of tiredness, she stated with a cold face, "Mr. Haney, I'm grateful for your help, but we're not familiar with each other. It's not appropriate for us to stay in one room, don't you think?"
She didn't believe any successful man would have interest in a boring woman like her. In fact, she was suspicious last time when he changed the shoes for her.
If no interest were involved, he should have ulterior motives.
"It's not like you've never done it before. What are you nervous about?" With a calm face, Murphy bore against the door and got in.
Annoyance rose from the bottom of her heart. Kimora warily took two steps back. To her surprise, Murphy was such kind of person. She had thought too highly of him.
Her eyes icy, she pulled off her mask and revealed a gloomy face, "Mr. Haney, are you really…"
While she was halfway through her speech, Murphy noticed her swollen left cheek and instantly changed countenance. His slender fingers pinched her chin. His eyes went dim, and he asked in a grim tone, "Who did this to you?"
Kimora furrowed her brow, tore his hand away, and responded blandly, "I don't think it has anything to do with you."
She walked to the chair, sat down, and got tired of conversing with him, "Mr. Haney, if you don't have any other business, please leave. I need to rest."
Murphy's eyes went dim. Following a glance at her, he turned away.
As soon as he was gone, she lay prone on the desk out of exhaustion.
The heavy workload stressed her out.
Sleepiness soon got the better of her. Kimora closed her eyes for a good rest, but someone knocked on the door. She dully opened her eyes.
The next second saw a shadow pushing the door open, getting in, pulling out a stool, and sitting next to her.
Kimora rose, saw the man, and furrowed her brow. Her eyes were icy.
"Mr. Haney, if you don't leave now, I'll call security."
Murphy ignored her cold tone and unscrewed a bottle of ointment he got from a nurse.
Kimora leaned back and resisted, "What do you want?"
"Applying the medicine." He answered concisely, "Be quiet if you don't want to attract attention."
Murphy pulled her closer to himself and pinched her chin. His other hand dabbed in the ointment and applied the white cream on her swollen cheek gently.
Under a cool sensation, Kimora looked blankly at him, laid her eyes on his slanted eyes, and had an inexplicable feeling of familiarity.
"Have we met before?"
She blurted out.
Murphy raised his eyes and looked at her. The expression on his cold face was somehow quite warm, "What do you think?"
Kimora snapped out of her daze. A flicker of chagrin flashed across her eyes, and she looked away, "Sorry for my gaffe."
With a noncommittal attitude, he massaged her cheek till the ointment melted.
Before leaving, Murphy got up and reminded her in a deep voice, "Don't get yourself into such a mess again."
Following that, he got out of the lounge.
Kimora looked down at the ointment on the desk and lost herself in thoughts.
Murphy walked through the quiet corridor, went back to the ward, looked at his pale-faced brother on the bed, and gently tucked him in.
His assistant, Gerald Finch, looked at the boy and sighed under his breath, "Sir, Kody's condition is getting worse. It was a stroke of luck that he was saved this time. If such a thing happens again, I'm afraid…"
"Sir, Kody must have the surgery as soon as possible. We're running out of time" Gerald said with a heavy heart.
With a solemn expression, Murphy thought for a while and asked in a deep voice, "Is the kidney source found?"
"We just did." Gerald respectfully handed a file to him.
He opened it and stiffened at the sight of a familiar name.
Kimora Guthrie?
He folded the file calmly and instructed, "I need you to deal with a person immediately."
